Lenny accidentally slammed her finger in the bathroom door. I felt so terrible for her and wasn't sure what to do. She cried for 20 minutes straight (longer than she cried when she split open her head). Dominic was at Lowes so I called him to come home quick. We both decided that since it wasn't bleeding and she could bend it, that we didn't need to take her to the doctor. It looks like it is very swollen and it blistered and pushed the skin back.
This happened yesterday and still today she will look at me, pretend to cry, and then show me her finger.
It was difficult for me to get a picture of it yesterday because she wouldn't let me look at it then. She would cry even if I asked to look at it. But my friend Tracy stopped by for a few minutes yesterday not too long after it happened and Brooke was very quick to show her boo boo to Tracy.
Here is a picture that I was finally able to get while she was eating her lunch. It's the pinky finger on her left hand. If you click on the picture to enlarge it, you can see how red it is. It looks worse today but I can tell it is getting better.

Brooke still loves her big brother even though he slammed her finger in the door. Lenny felt really bad about it and he tells me that no one should ever slam doors. I think he has learned his lesson.

Movie Time
I just had to post these two pictures. Brooke and Nathan have finally come to love watching movies. This happened in the last three weeks when I rented Baby MacDonald from Netflix. They love that movie and others now too.
Anyway, we had a little time before we had to go pick Lenny up from preschool so I put on the movie. This is how I found them about five minutes later.

Cows N Corn
I forgot to mention this in the last post and realized it shortly after. While we were on the hayride, Nathan was sitting on my lap, Brooke was sitting next to me, and Lenny was sitting next to Brooke. Anyway, we got to a place where there were a bunch of cows real close to the wagon. Brooke got scared. She immediately looked at Lenny (not me), started to cry and raised her arms up to Lenny to comfort her. She wrapped her arms around his neck real tight and Lenny hugged her real tight. Then Lenny said, "It's okay Brooke." I wanted to cry because it was the cutest thing ever! She didn't even go to me, she went to Lenny.
Proud Mommy
I am so very proud of Lenny and his reading skills. He has been doing so great. Last week when I dropped Lenny off in the carline, the teacher that he has for Lunch Bunch (he stays an hour late once a week to have lunch with others in his class) told me that Lenny read to her the last week in lunch bunch. She said that he did great and she was very proud of him. She told me that she will ask Lenny to read to her every time for Lunch Bunch. Lenny had already told me that he read to her and he was proud that he did it too.
So imagine how proud I was today when I got an email from Lenny's teacher telling me how impressed they all are with Lenny's reading. She said that she has started this week having Lenny read the letter person book during writing center. She also mentioned that he is now reading during Lunch Bunch. I had never mentioned to them before that he could read so I guess they weren't expecting it. I should have told them long ago.
I am so very proud of him!! While he was at school today Brooke, Nathan, and I went to the library and got some more books. I got one called Snow that Lenny had never seen. He picked it up when he got home today and read the entire thing to me.

That is just amazing...really not even because he is one of my fave kids on earth..but it realy is fantastic that (wiht the help of his wonderful Mommy) he is doing so well. (ps and wonderful Daddy)
I am SO VERY proud of my Lenny!!
I always worry about the kids catching their fingers in the door. I hope Brooke's finger feels better soon. I love the picture of Nathan watching the movie; he must be more of an action flick type of guy! GREAT job Lenny...keep up the good work!
Oh my that finger looks bad! It hurts to look at it. Nat had jeans on! Now Lenny can teach Brooke and Nat how to read. He is good!
Kelli I don't know how you find the time to do the things you do and be a wife too.
I just love the story of Brooke wanting comfort from Lenny on the hay ride...I always wanted a big brother and am so excited that when I finally have a girl she will have at least 2 big brothers to look after her.
Lenny, Miss Tracy is so proud of your reading! I think you and Mikie should go to the library together sometime! Kelli, keep up the good work...ask him to read environmental signs you see all around (road signs, grocery products, menus, etc.) Encourage it as much as you can.
That picture of Nathan sleeping in the chair is absolutely adorable. And Brooke's poor little finger - it's so cute that she's milking the sympathy. When I enlarged the photo to get a better look at the boo boo I couldn't get over what beautiful eyes she has!
It's great that Lenny is enjoying his reading so much. Christian's reading is really taking off too. So much so that it actually worries me that soon he'll be reading so well that he'll only want to read on his own and not want me to read to him anymore. Not reading at bedtime will be a very sad thing for me. Is the "Snow" book the one put out by the Dr. Seuss library? That one was a big favorite of ours.
You should be proud of Lenny. Not many 4 year olds can read books by themselves. Shows he's had an excellent teacher. How cute that Brooke asked Big Brother for condolences not her parents....glad Lenny was sympathetic to her. He is a great boy.
